Helping families navigate change, reduce conflict, and move forward with children at the centre.
Separation and divorce can be among the most emotionally challenging experiences a family faces. While the relationship between parents may change, the need for children to feel safe, secure, and supported remains.
Dr. Jenny McAlister works with parents and families navigating separation, divorce, co-parenting challenges, and family restructuring.
With a background in child and adolescent development, couples therapy, family relationships, and clinical psychology, Jenny brings a compassionate, practical, and child-focused approach to supporting families through difficult transitions.
This work may include:
Separation and Divorce Counselling: Supporting individuals and families as they navigate the emotional and relational challenges of separation.
Co-Parenting Support: Helping parents improve communication, manage disagreements, establish boundaries, and develop more effective ways of parenting across households.
High-Conflict Family Relationships: Supporting parents in understanding and reducing patterns of conflict that affect their children and family relationships.
Family Restructuring: Helping families adjust to changing relationships, new parenting arrangements, blended families, and evolving family roles.
Parent-Child Relationship Support: Helping parents better understand and respond to their children's emotional and developmental needs during periods of family change.
The goal is not necessarily to eliminate every disagreement, but to help families manage conflict more effectively, protect important relationships, and create healthier environments for children to grow and thrive.
Because while families may change shape, the importance of healthy relationships never changes.
Court-Ordered Practice Note 7 Interventions
In addition to therapeutic support for families navigating separation and divorce, I provide court-ordered Practice Note 7 interventions under the supervision of Dr. Greg Pickering. These interventions are designed to assist families experiencing complex parenting challenges and conflict during separation or divorce. My approach is grounded in an understanding of child development, family relationships, and the importance of keeping children's well-being at the centre of the process. Working under Dr. Pickering's supervision, I aim to support a thoughtful, structured, and child-focused approach to helping families navigate these challenging circumstances.
